WPC, wood-plastic composite or composite wood

WPC, composite, wood-plastic or Woodplastic – these are the names used for materials with varying compositions. In the case of TERAFEST®, it is a combination of HDPE polymer and wood flour sourced from PEFC-certified European forests. We source the wood from offcuts, so no new trees need to be felled for our products.

Thanks to its weather resistance, the TERAFEST® composite material is suitable for a wide range of applications – from decking and cladding to fencing and sunshades. It withstands rain, frost and sun well, does not warp and does not require the intensive maintenance of traditional timber. It is precisely this combination of durability and low maintenance that makes it a practical solution for modern exteriors.

60% wood
We use softwood flour sourced from sustainable European forests. When combined with polymer, it creates the optimal properties of the WPC composite. The quality, purity and correct size of the fibres are particularly important.

30% polymer
We use HDPE, which offers high resistance to moisture, frost and UV radiation. Compared to other polymers, it offers the best stability for outdoor use.

Additives and pigments (~10%) A
key component affecting durability and colour fastness. Although this constitutes a small proportion of the mixture, it is crucial to the material’s long-term durability when used outdoors.

SE Special
Edition Some products in the SE range also feature a protective PE layer (co-extruded), which enhances the surface’s resistance to mechanical damage and soiling, and slows down colour fading caused by UV radiation.

Terafest® composite material is characterised by high colour fastness. However, shortly after installation, slight changes in colour and surface texture occur, a process known as colour maturing. This process is most pronounced in the first few months following installation and gives the decking a natural look and character, which it retains for many years to come.

Terafest® contains a high proportion of wood, which, as a natural material, reacts to exposure to sunlight and water. At the start of this process, the surface of the planks takes on a temporary yellowish tinge, which, however, fades relatively quickly. The speed of this process depends on the intensity of the sun and rain. The evenness across the deck is determined by its orientation, or by whether it is covered by a roof or furniture. We therefore recommend that, in the first few months after installing the deck, you do not leave garden furniture and other accessories in one place, but move them around the deck regularly.

The weathering period is approximately 3–6 months for an open terrace and up to one year for a covered terrace. After this period, the surface of the boards will have reached the desired final colour, which will not change any further.
